Margot Daly

MARGOT DALY is regarded as one of the top professional solo vocalists in Ireland.

As one of Ireland’s most sought after backing vocalists, Margot was the resident backing singer on RTE’s “The Voice of Ireland” for the entire 5-year run of the show. On three occasions, she was also backing vocalist for Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest; in 1992 with Linda Martin when Ireland won with “Why Me”, followed by 2000 in Stockholm and most recently, with Ireland’s 2017 entry in Kyiv, Ukraine.

Margot features as a solo artist on the Liam Lawton number one, double-platinum, selling album, “Another World”, alongside other featured stars including Clannad’s Moya Brennan and Brian Kennedy.

Margot’s session vocalist catalogue is extensive. She was the featured voice on the soundtracks for the George Best biopic, “Best”, starring John Lynch, Patsy Kensit and Stephen Fry, and the movie, “On The Edge”, starring Oscar-nominated Stephen Rea and Cillian Murphy. Her voice has been used for TV ad campaigns both in Ireland and Europe – most recently for Lidl – as well as an advertising campaign as far afield as China, where her voice is used in an educational programme for teaching the English language through songs to children in primary education.

She began her professional career at the age of 16 when, along with her guitar, she travelled to the USA and worked on the Irish circuit in Boston and New Hampshire before returning to Ireland to finish her education. The experience gained from that trip allowed Margot to quickly enter and ascend the professional scene in Ireland from the age of 17. Since then Margot has worked and toured consistently in Ireland and Europe and USA as both a soloist and a backing singer. She also performed for the legendary Dolly Parton in Dolly’s theme park Dollywood as Ireland’s representative in her annual Festival of Nations show.

Margot co-owns and runs a recording studio, “The House of Horns”, in Dublin where, with her husband – renowned saxophonist and producer Michael Buckley – they write and record their own songs. The critically-acclaimed album, “It Is What It Is”, featuring all original music from the couple, was written and produced at the studio. They are currently finishing up their new studio album of original music, which is due for release later in 2018. She also works as a vocal coach with many of the artists – both established and up-and-coming – who are currently being produced at the studio by Michael.

Margot’s versatility as a live singer and performer is renowned in the music business. She has sung with bands of all styles and sizes, from pop and rock bands, to jazz trios and swing/big bands, as well as featured performances with the RTE Concert Orchestra. Her ability as a vocalist to transcend so many different genres of music is what makes Margot so unique, and one of the most sought-after professional singers in Ireland today.
